AL-Swaida First’’ is an independent organization established in 2015 in London, England. It’s aims is to establish a self-governing Al-Swaida region in the southern part of the Syrian State.

The leadership of the organization and its members believe that the establishment of an autonomous administration with broad powers consisting of democratically elected figures that represent all spectrums of the society is the best solution for the people of Al-Swaida, this they hope will improve the region in terms of security and livelihood .

The idea is that the organization and the administration will not fall under the banner of any political or military party and their only goal is to serve the interest of Al-Swaida, the safety of its people and to grant them their right to a decent life and to support natural progress and development at all levels.

Who are we

The organization is made up of educated personalities who are familiar with the political situation in the region in general and in Al-Swaida region and its people in particular . The organization and its administration refuse to surrender to the painful reality of the humiliating , destructive economic and social situation that the country and the Al-Swaida region have reached in light of the ongoing civil war.

‘’AL-Swaida First’’ also represents a way out of the deadlock that the entire population has reached in the shadow of the civil war. We believe that an autonomous administration will bring with it a stable, safe and recovered economy which the state has lost since the beginning of the civil war.

The Legal and Moral Motive

Al-Swaida maintained an almost absolute independence under the Ottoman rule, which prompted the French later to recognize the Al-Swaida region as an emirate with broad powers. During the first years of the French mandate, the people of Al—Swaida ran their affairs through local leaderships and administrations, which increased their prominent and effective leading role in the anti-colonial struggle in Syria and the region. Since the declaration of the Syrian state in 1946, Al-Swaida and its region have retained a distinct character that differs in several aspects from the rest of Syria’s regions. Moreover, the position of Al-Swaida and its people has been different from all other regions and governorate towards the civil war which broke out in 2011. All these aforementioned points affirm the rights of Al-Swaida and its people to establish an autonomous administration with broad powers and to realize its self-determination in the manner that they desire and deserve.

AL-Swaida is a House of Tolerance

In contrast to many regions in the Middle East which have had long periods of conflicts and wars over ethnic and religious backgrounds, the people of Al-Swaida are from different cultural and religious affiliations and have led a life based on the foundation of tolerance, love and acceptance. This has been clearly reflected through their peaceful stance towards the civil war. The ‘’Al-Swaida First’’ organization aspires to establish a self-government administration based on democratic foundations, personal freedom, freedom of religion and piousness, tolerance and fraternity so that members of all sects can live together in love, peace and harmony.

Al-Swaida is a Secure Place

The most crucial task entrusted to the self government administration is restoring security and safety in Al-Swaida . The living conditions in the region have deteriorated to a deplorable state and the fate and safety of the local population are now in the hands of criminal and terrorist gangs and weak security forces. The ‘’Al-Swaida First’’ organization will make utmost efforts to restore security and safety for the local citizens by establishing a local police apparatus that will be responsible for restoring the security of the citizens, enforcing the law tirelessly and ensuring the safety of the citizens against any form of injustice and persecution. The police department will also be in charge of fighting corruption and preventing any immoral social phenomena.

AL-Swaida under a Democratic Administration

The ‘’AL-Swaida First’’ organization aspires to establish a democratic and fair autonomous administration that is run by an authority elected by the majority as in advanced western countries. From this perspective, democratic elections will be held for official and representative jobs with the participation of all citizens who are entitled to vote. Also, three local authorities that will work separately and monitor one another will be elected. These local authorities are: a legislative authority, a judicial authority and an executive authority that is led and run by an executive administration approved by the majority of the members of the legislative authority.

AL-Swaida is a Peaceful Region with its Neighbors

The ‘’AL-Swaida First’’ organization aspires to establish an autonomous administration that lives in peace with all cultural and religious groups that live in the Al-Swaida region and with neighboring countries near and far. The autonomous administration and the people of Al-Swaida have no ambitions to expand or control geographically or militarily, but quite the opposite, all they seek is a peaceful existence with all parties and neighboring regions.
